The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall

5.0

This is one of those books that went under the radar and it’s so sad that it did. It was given to me by a trusted bookseller who knew I would love it. The story is complex and unique and comes together beautifully. The characters all grow and develop as they find themselves and their purpose.
2 orphans become pirates on a ship that poses as a passenger ship before it takes the passengers and puts them below. Flora/ Florian and her brother have escapes hunger and starvation to become pirates. When Evelyn, an imperial Lady, comes aboard the ship, everything changes.
I don’t want to give too much away but this fantasy is so worth the read
