A Fate of Wrath & Flame by K.A. Tucker

5.0

It’s hard to believe that before this series, KA Tucker wrote only contemporary romance. She’s so good at writing fantasy! The world building is A+ and it never feels like all this information about a completely new world/magic system/political schemes was just dumped out on the reader. The progression felt so natural.

There is a touch of romance in here but it is not a romance novel. FMC is a thief caught up with organized crime in NYC that gets transported to a seemingly medieval, magic filled world completely different than her own - in the body of an antagonizing/evil princess who apparently plotted to murder the king and queen. I love Romy so much. She’s brave and handles whatever is thrown at her with her quick wit and that knack for survival she’s had to have her whole life. Meanwhile she is a stranger to this new world bjt has to act like she’s familiar with it. Zander is an idealist at heart but a skeptical ruler in practice. Most of the book he is keeping a massive secret from Romy that sets up the rest of the series. He trusts very few people and definitely not Romy, given that she (or the evil princess whose body she’s in) killed his parents at the start of the book. My poor baby king has so much on his back but when there’s those brief moment when he can let go of it, he’s just a handsome lil soft boi.

This is going to be such a great series. Every fantasy reader needs to give it a try.

Also, everything From Blood and Ash wishes it was.
