The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad

4.0

Aisne Seierstad writes amazing books about people who live in heartbreaking circumstances. In this one, she "embedded" herself with an Afghan family for four months. Though it's non-fiction, it reads like a novel as we experience the world through the different lenses of different family members (spoiler alert: it's particularly sobering to read about women's experience in this world.) Though it's titled for the male head of the family, I found that at the end of the book, I understood him the least....the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.
