The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon

3.0

Rating 3.5/5

In all honesty, I cannot say why this book was only a 3.5 for me. I thought it was well-written, the plot was cute, I liked the main characters, but it didn't give me the "Oomph" that I was personally lookin for. This is one of those stories that, there isn't anything glaringly wrong with it, and, in theory, did so many things right, but it didn't quite hit me the way I wanted it to.

Shae Goldstein lives for public radio. Employed at Seattle Public Radio since college, and promoted to the youngest producer they have, she can't imagine doing anything else. But lately, things have been tense at work, as a new colleague Dominic Yune, who has no experience in radio but has a graduate degree in it, thinks he knows everything about the job.

When the station, who is struggling to keep listeners, is looking for ideas, Shae comes up with the idea for "The Ex Talk" where two exes give relationship advise. But instead of casting two legitimate exes, their boss thinks they should be the host given the obvious tension between them. Neither Shae nor Dominic wants to lie to their listeners as they believe in truth in journalism, but it was made clear to them that it's either this, or unemployment. So, they start The Ex Talk and it is basically an instant success.

As the show grows, so does Shae's guilt, and it is further complicated when the pair legitimately start to fall for one another and if the truth of their deception is revealed, it could mean more than unemployment.

As I mentioned above, this was a cute story that I overall enjoyed. I also though the audiobook narrator did a phenomenal job as she has the perfect emotional inflection in her narration depending on what was happening.

But this one just didn't fully work for me, unfortunately. I am still glad I read it, though and would recommend to all of those looking for a sweet love story.
