it’s a book i truthfully wasn’t expecting to like so much but it was nothing short of an absolute page turner. i loved the drama, the twists and turns, and how relatable the main character marigold is, despite being very obviously flawed. the way she talked about her mental health and mental illness and the struggles she went through in the past, along with how she’s been treated because of those things, really made me see myself in her. especially when she makes mistakes and  does dumb, bad shit, because often times authors will make their characters absolutely pitch perfect with little to no mistakes which is completely unrealistic to how people actually are irl, however marigold on the other hand is the exact opposite of that which i think makes her more authentic, almost as if you’re reading about a real person. also, so far this is the second book i’ve read written by tiffany d jackson, and I must say she certainly knows how to create an unsettling atmosphere through her writing. she’s somehow able to make the reader want to 💩 themselves because of how creepy or thrilling the book is despite the simplicity of the writing, which i think is just mostly due to this being a YA book and nowadays almost every YA book has simplistic writing as if teenagers can’t handle reading way more complex writing (after all, most of us read shakespeare lmao) but even with the writing style not being reminiscent to a damn puzzle unlike most classical books, it still got me to feel such strong emotions that i thought only riddle filled writing was able to evoke. i say all this mumbo-jumbo to say: good job author for not making me bored. overall, great book imo, wished i could’ve seen the aftermath tho of what happened at the very end (no spoilers), but oh well
