The Red Parts by Maggie Nelson

5.0

I just adore every word Maggie Nelson has ever written, and could ever write. As someone with an interest in criminal justice, as well as the concept of 'true crime', I found this a hugely interesting and insightful read. Nelson has a way of writing that can only be described as beautiful, even when the subjects are so awful; as well, I am constantly impressed by the original and profound links she draws, and the way in which she does this. I cannot imagine how difficult this was for Nelson - not only because of the obvious upsetting topic, but more because of the ways she tacked familial trauma, appearing to reflect from her own position whilst respecting the positions of many others. A truly incredible work.
