Not Your Mother's Rules: The New Secrets for Dating by Sherrie Schneider, Ellen Fein

4.0

I felt like the book was a bit sexist at times, perpetuating a lot of harmful stereotypes for women. For example, the whole chapter on being skinny to get your man to always be in love with you - hasn't this led to a lot of people starving themselves to "look good". Although I do understand the 'look good to feel good' message, and maintaining a healthy weight - I have seen some women struggle with this balance. There's also the chapter on dressing to attract men, which I don't think applies to all cultures (since skimpy dressing isn't really a thing in Asia).
I liked the underlying message about being a woman with your life to get a man. That's the key to love - love yourself and you'll find love. As someone who has subconsciously been living the 'rules' life, I think it has a good message.
