Maybe I wasn't in the right mind space to read this the first time I did, but this time I actually enjoyed this read and I want to continue the series for the next two books.

Nena's character is extremely well fleshed out and Yasmin's description of the trauma that she went through was gritty, deep and hard hitting. And they are at times hard to read, so the trigger warnings are real.

From the torturous and abusive youth that would have broken most anyone else to her adoptive parents and sister who loved her and did all they could to heal her to the self-awareness that she had to find for herself. This was not just a story but a journey and I hope the second book is just as good.
