I enjoyed the mix of romance and angst in this story. The hero does not believe he will ever find or deserve love and then he is struck by the knowing and his life is forever changed. He has to overcome prejudice and hate from within his own people, and he has to convince himself and Melissa that this will work. Melissa is battling her own demons and does not understand what is happening at first but soon realises the Jarek is an important part of her life. They battle through and reach a happy balance.
