Wow. I read this out loud with my sister and we were both sobbing by the end. This story somehow delivers unmitigated joy, fear, heartbreak, and breathtaking existential truths in a way that feels so natural and familiar to the Sandman universe yet so gut-wrenchingly tangible and immediate and soul-touching. The art in this volume is stunningly intricate, bold, and dynamic while conveying the story as well as the complex themes subtly and delicately. Unequivocally my favorite Sandman volume.
