Immediate initial thoughts: You gotta be shitting me.

Next day thoughts: Not gonna lie - the first half of this book was boring as hell for me and I don't know why. This book never should have taken me almost four full months to read but here we are.

Normally, I like my fantasy novels medium to fast paced. I did consume the last quarter of the book in a week's time and the last 100 pages last night. I only wish the pace of the book a little more feverish for the first half.

Do I think the writing style is great? Not GREAT, but good. Thoughts on the dynamics of relationships and characters? Again, not the best. I have a hard time reading the thoughts of young adults and their ways of thinking and handling relationships now that I'm 33 and have been married for 5 years (although I do like the reminder that not all characters in books handle things perfectly - just like real life). Have I read better written fantasy? I have. That being said, the story is a good one. It just is. I was the girl in high school who was obsessed with Lord of the Rings, consumed Eragon as break-neck speed, enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia, Pendragon, and His Dark Materials to name a few. I am a fantasy loving girlie.

I can't wait to see what Yarros has coming in the next installments.
