I found it fascinating to learn about Puritan society and the first murder in Plymouth, things were very different from what I was taught in school. What surprised me most was that Plymouth was a diverse community and that not everyone shared the Puritan beliefs.
I enjoyed that much of the book was told from the viewpoint of women, it gave me a lot to think about since history is pretty much silent about women in this place and time. Life in Plymouth was grim, especially for those who didn't fit into the strict code of Puritan society and for women. I would never have survived!
