I really enjoyed Midnight Sun! I was a HUGE Twilight fan back in my middle school days and this book bought back all those memories. I even went back and watched all of the movies once I finished reading.
You have to understand that it's the exact same story as Twilight (give or take), with just a different perspective and a few added details due to it being from Edward's perceptive. I think if I was reading it directly after finishing the rest of the Twilight series, I would think "what's the big deal?" but reading it now (~10 years later) was very enjoyable.
