The Words by Ashley Jade
5.0
5 ⭐️ “But the sun can’t be volatile like the ocean…otherwise the universe becomes a dark, cold, and lonely place. The sun needs to be in control…because the entire world revolves around it”
An incredible enemies to lovers, betrayal, rockstar standalone with plus size rep. This book had all the feels; the angst ripples throughout every chapter and ploughs into your heart. Reading Lennon deal with her conflicting feelings for Phoenix and Phoenix struggle with his amongst all the guilt was so emotive. The push and pull between the two of them kept me glued to my screen. I’ve never read a book so fast before. It was addictive anticipating what would happen between them next. I almost didn’t want it to end.
Yes it was toxic, but would you expect anything less? This isn’t one of your typical romance stories. There’s conflict and deep internal struggles that manifest through actions and words. Their relationship takes work, a lot of it. But I’m here for the angst and nitty gritty parts of their imperfect romance, which was done so well (I like to suffer when I read). I was rooting for Lennon’s revenge whilst simultaneously wishing for their loving reunion.
There was a lot of stuff that resonated with me regarding Lennon and her weight, something I can relate to. I appreciate the plus size rep and liked how she didn’t transform completely in the time jump - something that I’ve always read and quite frankly, as a plus size girl, am tired of reading. I felt a little more seen through this.
The angst was top tier and despite the conflict and circumstances, I rooted for both of them, especially at the end. I just wanted to see them happy!!
Might add more to this review, for now this will do. A new fave for me. Onto the next!
