The Black Death: The World's Most Devastating Plague by Dorsey Armstrong

4.0

I bought and read this book because I was interested in how the medieval world dealt with the Black Death when they had none of our modern day medical technology. Especially now when we are experiencing COVID-19. It was enlightening to listen to all of the lectures and gain a greater understanding of the Black Death when it was something that I learnt when I was a child. The lectures provided insight how the Plague greatly impacted medieval life and how it lead way into the early modern period, the Renaissance and the Reformation, as historians theorise that medieval life would have continued for a few more centuries had it not been for the Black Death shaking the foundations of medieval society, and the Church/religion. Due to the high mortality of the Plague, it enabled social mobility, increased wealth to those who survived, and threatened the political structures of most countries.

I thought that this audiobook provided a good general insight into the Black Death. A lot of big points were overly simplified for time, so I would recommend further research if needed for academic purposes.

Overal, this book was educational and I would recommend it. Especially now!
