lily king effortlessly and unapologetically paints a portrait of a woman in her thirties, struggling to find herself and her worth in her creative and romantic ambitions while balancing the grief of loss and lacking, in all of its many complicated forms. i will give the warning that this book reads as though you’re examining casey through her window or as a patron in the restaurant she works at — you’re an observer.

our narrator is vulnerable, honest, and inspiring in the way she pursues her passions and honors her values. king writes with both a romantic and brutal quality that made me fall more in love with her perspective and observations. the flow of the book is incredible and shes so skilled at describing the anxiety, fear, thrill, and confusion of any transitional period in life.

excellent writing and a beautiful story of finding yourself. i really enjoyed reading this and would highly recommend to anyone feeling like they’re hiding from themselves.
