"I know what happens and so do you.  It's the machinations that wheel us there that aggravate, perplex, interest, and astound me."
This book is beautiful and haunting, reflecting on a small sample of humanity during a horrific period in history. As the narrator says, the 'what' of the story is less important, than the 'who' and 'how' and 'why,' and it's these aspects that show glimpses of light between the shadows.
