The Steel Remains by Richard K. Morgan

Did not finish book.

1.0

Okay, no. I'm not even going to bother finishing this. I picked it up on my to-read from one of the thousands of LGBT SFF rec lists, and I'm honestly massively disappointed. "Dark" it may be if your definition includes gangrape, repetitive use of slurs and a character who I honestly had to fight to even find an inkling of care about. No, I'm sorry. If I wanted to read about a gay guy getting constantly shit upon by his society, I'd read the news.

And yeah, I know, grimdark is grimdark, and don't get me wrong, I LOVE grimdark! Joe Abercrombie is one of my favourite authors!! But good lord, I've never read so much gratuitously pointless drivel in my life. And all the sex!! Jesus fuckin christ, put a stopper in it will you? I'm the opposite of a prude, but holy shit batman.

I was honestly looking forward to reading some Richard K Morgan after devouring the Altered Carbon Netflix series, but now I'm even questioning if I want to read that at all! Blech. Time to move on.
