The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins

4.0

My favourite character, believe it or not, is the Avox girl. She has this mystery around her, and also this kindness, in spite of all that she's suffered. The bond between Katniss and her, forged by the events in the forest, is compelling; she takes care of Katniss when she doesn't have to. And Katniss somehow needs her, her support when she is at her most desperate. I do hope this will be explored further in the trilogy.

I like Katniss' spunk, and her strength. The way she defies the Capitol, even when she didn't intend to. And the repercussions it might have on her. I'm looking forward to seeing what lies ahead for her. She definitely has the wits to outwit them.

I'm a bit more of a Gale supporter than Peeta. Their history, their friendship is stronger than her bond with Peeta. They might have fought through thick and thin in the Hunger Games, but I'm left with the feeling that it somehow might not last. That it won't hold up to life in District Thirteen. I guess I'll have to read on and see.

Oh, and I'm just as intrigued by District Thirteen. Capitol, I'm on to you.
