The Code of the Samurai: A Modern Translation of the Bushido Shoshinshu of Taira Shigesuke by Thomas Cleary

3.0

"No matter how eloquent and intelligent you may normally seem to be, if you lose composure on the brink of death and die in an unseemly manner, your previous good conduct will all be in vain, and you will be looked down upon by serious people. This is a very disgraceful thing”

Well, that's just extreme. The way of the samurai was essentially training men to be emotionless and robotic ninja-monks who had to follow a strict lifestyle to maintain a code of honour. To have walked the path of the warrior must have been a heavy burden.
