This book examines what happens to an environment after people have left it behind. It looks at the famous/infamous, like Chernobyl, and the less so, like Swona, where the last farmers on an island decided to liberate the cows that lived there when they left because of age and infirmity. Along the way the author muses about human impact on our environment, what happens after they've left, and our impact on the world generally.
The book wasn't a bad read, covered some interesting places, and explained our impact on the environment clearly. The issue might be that if you're well read, you might be aware of the places visited. More interestingly, I assumed that the author would discuss some places that she didn't go to, which might irk some readers. I genuinely wouldn't mind, but the book isn't exactly long, so she could have padded the read by visiting them, maybe?
