Bloodlust & Bonnets by Emily McGovern

5.0

Set in nineteenth-century Britain, Bloodlust & Bonnets follows the adventures of Lucy (a debutante with a penchant to read too much into things), Lord Byron (a poet with a flair for the dramatic), and Sham (a vampire hunter bent on maintaining her aura of mystery) as they embark on a mission to hunt down the fearsome vampire Lady Violet Travesty. This book is truly laugh-out-loud funny - smart and silly all at the same time. I loved all the romance-period tropes McGovern plays with throughout the story. The inclusion of queer love stories without making it the focal point of the book or of each characters' individual story was wonderfully done, and the illustrations are a perfect match to the tone and story. I'd highly recommend this to fans of period classics who want a fun twist on them - easy to read, witty, and fast-paced!
