The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas
2.0
This book is described as Mexican Gothic meets Rebecca and it’s just too similar to the two books, in my opinion.
Also, I struggle with horror where the logistics don’t add up. Are things really happening or are they happening in people’s heads? What is the ghost’s intention? To scare people or get revenge? Because this ghost goes about it in such a roundabout way, I couldn’t understand why it was targeting the people it was. I get wanting to scare readers, but if it doesn’t make sense, I feel like I’m being taken out of the story.
Also the romance didn’t work for me. What was the attraction? He was kind to her and listened to her? That’s it? Low bar!
I liked the eerie moments but too much of the story relied on shock and awe and less on logic.
