I read this because it was the Pulitzer Prize Winner for poetry in 2020. It deals with serious issues: race, sexuality, violence, abuse, spirituality, and identity. There are definitely some beautiful words here . . . but this collection just not appeal to me at all. Maybe I just don’t appreciate modern poetry enough. Maybe I’m not smart enough. I don’t know . . .
