The Devious Husband by Catharina Maura

3.0

I’m a bit disappointed with this one.

I really enjoyed Sierra and Xavier’s little rivalry throughout the series and I can’t lie and say it was everything I was expecting. I mean after they got married, the arguing didn’t last that long. It was like the whole thing was forgotten and boom, honeymoon phase.

And here’s the thing; the author has said that Xavier’s siblings will be getting a series of their own and that’s probably why there was this whole secrecy with what his family does and why it’s so bad but I feel like that left too many questions in this book. I am annoyed with Xavier’s whole back and forth. One minute he is practically worshiping the ground Sierra walks on, then he ignores her for weeks and then, she snaps and does something that he wasn’t expecting and he comes crawling back trying to win her back.

Also, another thing I hate that authors do is when family choose the love interest and not their own blood. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t scold him and whatever, but being with Sierra when Xavier was also going through stuff is just not it for me. And this scenario happens a lot in books; I mean love in law relationships and I’m all in for that but damn, that’s your son/brother!

Overall, I spend most of the book enraged with all the back and forth and whiplash that I got. I feel like the author had too many ideas she wanted to add in this but it’s a 300 page book, it did not end well. Everything was rushed or did not make sense.
