Mrs Death Misses Death by Salena Godden

3.0

I have such mixed feelings about this book. Whilst it is 100% not my kind of book, and I struggled with the non-existent plot, it was written so beautifully and poetically and had so much depth and insight, that I was enraptured through to the end and read it so very quickly.

MRS DEATH MISSES DEATH is a unique book, full of poetic prose and insightful letters. Mrs Death is sharing her story with Wolf, who is transcribing the story for her. There isn't a plot to this story as such, I think it is basically a journey and a reflection on death (obviously). What I didn't like was it being a whole book about death - I know I knew this going in - but I thought there would be some light-heartedness about it. While there is humour and some light relief here and there, it is generally a deep, intense discussion on death.

I applaud the writer for her beautiful writing and ability to lay it all out on the page in such an interesting and inviting way. She should be congratulated on writing something that will appeal to and connect with so many.

One I won't read again, but I am so glad to have read at all.
