I liked a lot about the world-building but there were some inconsistencies (I'm sure at least one of them will be a plot point in the sequel but I doubt it will change much for my opinion on it).
My biggest bugbear was that male side characters were written like ass: either entirely overbearing sex pests, maniacally evil,  or cardboard non-entities which didn't really have any flavour. MMC is obviously a stand-out in that regard, but he seems to flip-flop between being a huge asshole and suddenly being in love with FMC on a dime, with the two sides almost feeling like two separate characters in some scenes.
I'll likely pick up the second when it comes out, it was enjoyable enough and I hope we get to see more of big-bad than we did in book 1.
