Les Mangeurs de sel by Toni Cade Bambara

challenging mysterious tense slow-paced

3.0

This book is really weird. I really liked it but I can't pin point what I like precisely. This is a whole experimental journey I'm happy I went on, but damn am I lost ! Some pages left me completely struck by how it resonates with today's events and overall vibes, especially the chapter with Min and her guardian angel.
I think I just had to let go, to be lost and not understand most of what I was reading to enjoy it.

But goddamn ! If a book can grasp what "confusion" means, this is the one. There's no pause in the narration, by that I mean it's as if your brain isn't allowed to rest or get comfortable. In the same chapter, even on the same page there's flashbacks, memories, jump forwards in time, change of POV between who knows how many characters. Are they even characters, or ghosts or different representation of the MC psyche ? Is this a trip to the hospital, a healing session, an exorcism ?
Goddamn!
