At First Light by Vanessa Lafaye

5.0

This book begins with a murder in the recent past, beautifully drawn characters from the outset.
We are then transported back in time to the 1920s and the sense of impending dread builds because we know the outcome. The relationship between a mixed race Cuban and a white Great War veteran is lovely, damaged but 'good' people who find peace and love despite a difficult past.
But at the edges and moving to the middle is the spectre of the Ku Klux Klan.....
Highly recommended
