The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott

4.0

Another good entry that is possibly the most climactic of the series so far. The battle and destruction of the Republic Fair is harrowing. And possibly some of it rather prescient as well given the similarity to modern day politics of trying to force the fair into being despite obvious safety concerns. Chancellor Soh seemed to have good reasons at heart but the specter of re-election and a show of "defiance" to the Nihil ultimately lead to the wrong decision. It's a good entry that really solidifies the "main three" Jedi of Avar Kriss, Elzar Mann, and Stellan Gios.

Additionally, getting to see Marchion Ro and not only how calculated he is but how ruthless he is as well and what he has in store for the Jedi and the galaxy at large was really interesting and scary at times. The Ro scenes from Scott here are excellent and really set the mood that is in contrast to the heavy action in the rest of the novel. It's all good, but that contrast really gives a sense of foreboding when it leaves off as to what may happen next.
