Severance by Ling Ma

4.0

An interesting post-apocalyptic story, almost a cautionary tale in 2021 lol, about late-stage capitalism, adult coming-of-age, the immigrant experience and the balance between routine and changes. I really loved the story, the characters and how Ling Ma conveyed her themes. However I think the ending was a bit wack and the "technology makes us into zombies, oh no!" take is a bit overdone by now, it could've been more nuanced.
Also, side note, it was very trippy reading this but in the midst of a literal pandemic.
