finally finished my 1st Iain Reid book! i’ve heard a lot about this author’s books before, so i thought i’d check this one out first.

𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨… none of them were really likable to me. the girl (her name isn’t known throughout the story) and Jake both had issues that could’ve been solved if they just talked to one another. this miscommunication was doing my head in because of this constant back and forth thing about their relationship.

𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙚… i did like the way it was written. it was a simple writing style and i loved short sentences. it seemed like the chapters were going by quickly, but the whole book seemed to be dragging sometimes, if that makes sense. this book in general was really slow paced for me for some reason. i kept getting distracted and found myself doing anything else but reading this book lol.

𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙩… the ending was really damn confusing. i literally didn’t understand at all what was happening until the last chapter, although i did guess one of the plot twists, it was pretty predictable. i also seen this done before so this book didn’t really shock me. i found the atmosphere itself really creepy and some things at Jake’s parents’ house got me thinking “what the actual fuck?” but i really would’ve liked to know more about what them things meant. it’s so damn hard to talk about this book without giving spoilers omg. 😂 i also watched the movie adaptation of this book last night and let me tell you, don’t waste your time on the film, fr. the book was definitely better lol.
