Suddenly Royal by Nichole Chase
4.0
This book turned out differently than I expected it to. First off, the main character is in her mid-twenties, so I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a YA novel (I mean, look at that cover). Sam actually had some grown-up issues to complicate her life. In that regard, it was nice to see that most of her issues weren't because there was just a simple misunderstanding, and no one ran off before anyone could properly explain themselves. Sam had her occasional doubts about her life because of feelings that seemed pretty realistic.
The entire book was a very wish-fulfillment-type read. Everything about Sam’s introduction to Lilaria was pretty much awesome and she now has tons of money and a great house and a fulfilling job. Alex is always the perfect prince. She gets to go to a country that loves birds as much as she does. She even gets a wise, gay best friend/assistant!
Don’t get me wrong: it was a fun book, just not very realistic or complicated, so don’t go in expecting any big hurdles for our heroine to overcome (even Princess Mia had more issues with her newfound princess-dom). Regardless, I was still engaged until the end and enjoyed the happy ending. I noticed it said this was ‘Suddenly, #1’ in the title…I really hope there isn’t a sequel, unless it focuses on someone like Princess Cathy and her coming into her own. I think Sam and Alex should just be left to their happy ending. It’s not like. [Edited to add: Just looked up the 'series' and yay, the next book IS about Cathy and won't focus on Sam. Definitely behind that then!]
In conclusion, cute book! Read if you need some light fun.

Spoiler
the queen, or anyone else for that matter, is against them getting married and Sam being queen one day, so I don’t know what obstacles there would really be for the next book that wouldn’t feel contrived. In conclusion, cute book! Read if you need some light fun.
