I was weary going into this, but happy to report that overall I enjoyed this novel and it’s a quick read.

It feel like this is one of those books where people absolutely love or hate it. I think that just boils down to preference.

It’s a 291-page hyper-focused look at the pains of modern day dysfunctional family relationships. It’s well-written, but not much happens and it’s pretty bleak. So if that’s not your thing, maybe skip this one. For me, this book wasn’t my favorite or least favorite, but I’ll be thinking about it for a long time.

At parts, I saw so much of myself in Jules and Poppy that it was almost painful to read, because I never knew whether I should love, or even like, them. But then again, maybe that’s what made them feel so real.
