Dark Wild Night by Christina Lauren

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I fell in love with Oliver almost instantly, and the male narrator with the Australian accent had a lot to do with that. He was such an all around good guy that it's hard not to love him. I would look forward to the chapters with his pov, more than Lola's. I found her pretty annoying actually. She was whiny and unsure of herself and too introverted for my taste. But I guess what was so awesome about this couple was that they understood each other. Oliver loved her just the way she was. He got her idiosyncrasies and her need to whole up away from the world at times and how she lived in a comic book world. And she needed his quiet but ever present strength and confidence to reassure her and keep her in the present.

My favorite part of the book and the authors in general is the way they know how to relay angst. This was a classic friends to lovers storyline and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the characters to finally put an end to their wanting and sidelong glances and just hook up already. And when they finally did I just had this goofy smile on my face.

Given that I was really loving this book, what made me downgrade to 3.5 stars was the climax. When everything is going great, the formula is that something has to happen for them to fight, etc and then make up and have a hea. So in this case, I have to say I was disappointed in the drama. It seemed forced and unrealistic. Like not something people would fight over, let alone break up.
I guess it shows Lola's immaturity and lack of experience but it was just weak all around in my opinion.

Also, the shower scene seemed out of character for both Oliver and Lola. It was unnecessary and not that accurately written, and I felt it could have been left out.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and this series.
