I read this book as part of the dymocks challenge for ‘dymocks top 101’, although it could fit into ‘a book with mystery’ or ‘a book you’ve always meant to read’. I did read the start of this book a few years ago when I was 14, but I didn’t like it and found it boring. Now that i’m maturer I found it a very lovely book. The writing was enchanting and the storyline was captivating. The idea of the circus was so interesting and made me want to go there myself. Some parts I am still not completely clear on but I have the general idea. Some aspects that I found a bit jarring were: it’s all written in present tense. I’ve never read a book fully written in present tense so it was strange. It also jumps timelines quite heftily so I had to keep going back and forth to see what happened where. And for a while, there was an i described challenge that I had no idea what it would be. These factors were quite easy to embrace. I very much enjoyed this book! Read this 21st-24th of Jan. 4.5 stars
