This is the very short start to the spin-off series taking place in Mercy Thompson's world, featuring the infamous Charles, Samuel's brother and recurrent character in Mercy's story.

In retrospect, I would have really preferred this to be a full-fledged novel and not just a novella. The only way to be sure would be to read the next book in the series, but, sadly, so far, not really impressed.
I hope Patricia Briggs mixes it up a little bit, because I like her writing and really don't want to stop reading her main Mercy Thompson series.
