The Select and the Orphan by Peter Lerangis
4.0
The two novellas in the Seven Wonders Journals collection were both nice continuations of two stories that aren't fully explained or understood in the Seven Wonders world. So it was fun to go back in time and live through legends, and past events that lead to what happens in the full length books of the series.
Starting off with "The Select", I really loved the idea of learning about Burt Wenders and his father. And how they came to know about the G7W gene. Because of the length of the story I found it didn't make much sense, because I felt there wasn't an overall point to the story that was told. Though I did really enjoy exploring the island more in this novella, and getting to see what it was like before the Karai Institute was built.
But with "The Orphan" everything changed! I absolutely loved this novella. I was fond of Daria in "Seven Wonders: Lost In Babylon" (Book 2) and to get to see life from her point of view was a pleasant surprise. This novella takes place before the events in Lost In Babylon....
