In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin by Erik Larson

5.0

Ambassador Dodd and his family have both an outsiders and insiders view of the rise of the Nazis to power in Germany. Few prominent people were eager to take the position. Once Dodd was appointed many in the State Dept began criticizing him. Early on Dodd try to defend the Hitler regime and he shares an anti-Semitic view. Over time the horrors of Nazi power take a toll on the ambassador and his family.
