Fables, Vol. 2: Animal Farm by Steve Leiloha, Mark Buckingham, Bill Willingham, James Jean

1.0

Loved The Wolf Among Us, but these Fables comics have already lost me. Willingham does his take on Animal Farm, which seems like his excuse to introduce the 12-year olds who'd confuse this with mature writing to his rancid right-wing politics. Maybe if he'd done 30 seconds of research he would've realized that George Orwell was a socialist who fought in the Spanish Civil War against the Fascists, but I guess sticking to the CIA-approved interpretation of Animal Farm is a great way to win Eisner Awards. Orwell in his POUM days is the exact kind of revolutionary Willingham treats as beyond redemption and deserving of the death penalty in this volume. What a wonderful tribute.
