American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

I liked it.

Cultural appropriation? Please. Italian pasta came from Chinese noodles. Sometimes borrowing someone else's culture can result in good things. (Though not always.)

I think this book is a good thing. In the Author's Note, when Jeanine mentioned that she wasn't sure she was qualified to write this book, someone told her "...We need as many voices as we can get, telling this story." I agree. Some of the more critical reviewers of this book mentioned and linked other more "authentic" and "qualified" sources of the migrant experience. But without this book, I wouldn't even be that interested in the topic.
