Betrayal Foretold by Jen Crane

4.0

First I want to say that I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I had to give this book 4 stars and it KILLS ME! I f****ing LOVED the first two books with a passion and waited not so patiently for this book to come out.

The Amazing:
- The world that the author has created is fantastic. Way beyond anything I could come up with. Fantastic detail that pulls you into the story and makes you want to continue reading.
- character development is fantastic. I really bonded with all the characters and feel for them, i love watching them grow as characters and seeing how they react to certain situations and hardships that come their way.
-the series in general, there is a very good progression in this series, great writing that keeps you wanting to read more.
-The writing - the author has a way and pulling me in, I cannot put her books down. All three of these books I read in 1 sitting.
- new character: We got to meet a lot of new people in this book which was very exciting. The characters in this series never cease to amaze me. Some characters we have met before and are FINALLY getting some background information on them.

The not great:
-The betrayal did not seem to be too big a deal and was glossed over rather quickly
-a lot of characters that provided a fun and upbeat air to the book were not present for a lot of the book. This was necessary for the story line but i felt like i was missing out a little bit.
-the plot in general : not that the story was not well written,it was interesting and kept me up to all hours of the night (I finished the book in 1 sitting). But the book started with a lot of action, it was wrapped up very quickly within the first few chapters and the rest of the book was anti-climatic. I kept waiting for something BIG to happen, someone to cause a conflict or surprise. but nothing happened. It feels like most of this book was more informational and rushed.

A few things... **Spoilers ahead**
Spoiler
The first chapter really hinted at something big up the Villans sleeve, but this turned out to be almost nothing at all and I was very disapointed. The first few chapters actually happened so fast that I continued wondering through most of the book that things didnt go as smoothly as you thought and he was going to pop back up when we least expected.

This love triangle. Sigh. Not really a triangle at all. She picked Ewan and never wavered in her decision. its disappointing because i dont feel like there was any real chemistry between them at all. Im left wondering why she was even interested in him. I am a Rowan fan, I can feel the chemistry in waves when I read scenes with the two of them, i dont understand why that wasnt explored further.. i was hoping they would get some "screen time" in this book but their interactions were very limited to be honest.

The end. It happened so fast and the epilogue jumped way into the future and wrapped things up. There was no conflict when they tried using Rowans blood to break the spell. Stellas friends finding out she was alive was a 1 page scene and they agreed to try and have a baby in the next page. and Epilogue, it worked... I feel like i missed a lot there.

**spoilers End

The book was still a ride. You got to learn a lot of history and backstory on the characters as well as the new world Stella is living in. Unfolding secrets was very interesting, I just wish there was a bigger threat looming on the sidelines ready to swoop in and mess things up for the characters.

All in all, this book felt rushed and anti climatic. HOWEVER, I would still highly recommend this entire series to any lovers of fantasy. I feel like this story wrapped up well but there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered, I am hoping there is another book and that we can see where the characters go from here. The ending of this book did leave a big opening for something huge to happen if continued and I would jump at the chance to continue Stellas story.
