The A.I. Who Loved Me by Alyssa Cole

5.0

This one was an incredible lot of fun -- it's not just the charming characters or the geeky references (including board game nights -- I suspect Alyssa Cole is a super cool person), but the science fictional world building was at the perfect level for a romance novel. It was pertinent to the plot, but many of the elements were just present, perfectly natural to the background, so it didn't overpower the romance plot. At the same time, as someone who reads a lot of science fiction, I didn't feel like these elements were just window dressing.

The story has some great plot twists and surprises -- both for us and for Trinity -- and, of course, had me rooting for Trinity and Li Wei. As a bonus, it was awesome that even in a future with some major problems, people were accepting of each other. Sexual orientation, disability, trauma, etc. were all accepted by the characters without even a pause, even though this is a m(well, robot)/f romance.
