This was…pretty okay. I feel as though it grabbed bits and pieces from a bunch of other dystopian novels and shoved them together. It was Hunger Games meets The Selection meets Wither meets Handmaid’s Tale meets Shatter Me.
The writing was very easy to read and I flew through it when I got a chance to sit down and read it, but it certainly wasn’t mind blowing.
I really really REALLY hated the relationship between Ash and Violet. It was incredibly toxic and insta-lovey.
I felt like the world building was a bit sloppy. And I couldn’t keep track of all the houses and the duchesses and countesses.
The twist on the very last page was definitely unexpected and almost makes me want to continue on with the series…sometime. Maybe later.
