Somehow she pulled this off.  This mystery is told from the perspective of a flock of sheep. They are bright, and each has a distinctive personality, but they are still very very sheeplike.  Some of the sheep are delightful (I admit to being drawn to Melmouth, but I always liked the mysterious rebels).  Some are hilarious and lovable (Mopple the Whale).  I was glad to learn how Miss Maple earned her name.  Anyway, it works.  Strangely enough.  They never lose their essential sheepiness.  And yet.  It is a mystery.  With a dead body.  And all.
