This was a well done retelling of Mulan. I love the way Melanie wrote the book. I love the way she incorporates scriptures. Mulan's father has been called to fight, but he died two weeks prior.  Mulan afraid of her mother being removed from their home goes in his place. She has no idea of how to be a man or a soldier.  With the help of a childhood friend she adjust to the life of a soldier.  Wolfgang is running the camp and is suspicious of Mulan even though he has no idea why. He knows she's loyal and A fighter since she saved his life during a battle.  They are both Christians and are drawn to each other.
