This volume covers the beginning of Chris Claremont's long run on the X-Men until the beginning of the Phoenix Saga. It does a lot of set-up for the stories that come next, but that unfortunately means it feels a little slow and perhaps underwhelming--if only because what follows is so good. Still, Claremont's X-Men IS the X-Men, and these issues are well worth reading for the eventual payoff.
