The Private Patient by P.D. James

2.0

PD James tends to be overambitious. She also has a habit of repeating relationship threads and descriptions in very similar ways between novels, rather than trusting her readers to figure things out (I can see how she needs to make each book standalone so those new to her can 'get' it, but...). I do like her descriptions of police work, and there are some interesting things about class consciousness in British society, but the unsatisfying solutions to the mysteries (this one included) and the similar details between novels do dull her edge.

I found a copy of this novel in Leijay Resort, Galle, Sri Lanka, and read it during my lovely stay there.
