The Summer of the Pike by Jutta Richter

1.0

CIP: Three children who live on the grounds of a German castle spend the summer trying to catch a pike trapped in the moat, while the mother of two of the children is slowly dying of cancer.

Review: This book had potential to be so much more than it was. It had a good premise - but the story line remained unclear for much of the book and the characterization was unconvincing throughout.

SLJ says: "This allegorical tale is eloquent and poignant."
BookList says: "This short novel is sensitive and unflinching in its depiction of children and adults who are dealing with a terminal illness."
