The Red Scrolls of Magic by Wesley Chu, Cassandra Clare

5.0

I fell in love with Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series and I could not get enough of Malec, so needless to say I was beyond thrilled to get a totally Malec storyline. The Red Scrolls of Magic is everything I had been hoping for in a Malec book -- their chemistry heats up the pages while their love for one another will leave you in a puddle of mush, and their witty banter will make readers literally LOL. Each character has plenty of what readers have loved about them from the beginning: Alec is brave and willing to do anything to protect those he loves, especially Magnus; Magnus uses humor to hide his pain but also to comfort the love of his life; there's a smidge of Izzy being the helpful little sister and a short scene where Jace is adorably clueless. There's enough action to move the plot forward rather quickly but it doesn't detract from all of the amazingly heartwarming scenes of Magnus and Alec exploring their new relationship and dealing with a world that doesn't accept them together regardless of their deep love. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
